Do Campground's Shore Power steal from your solar panels?

No, campground shore power doesn't "steal" power from your solar panels.

Here's how it generally works when you're connected to both shore power and have a solar system:

Shore power is the primary source: When your RV is plugged into campground shore power, it usually provides the main power source for your RV's appliances and systems, especially high-draw ones like air conditioning or a microwave.

Solar works in the background: Your solar panels can still be generating power and charging your batteries. This is especially useful for powering smaller, lower-draw appliances or charging your battery bank.

They work together: The solar system can supplement the shore power, meaning it's not a competition but rather a potentially beneficial combination.

Important considerations:

Battery charging: Shore power can charge your RV's batteries, but it might be slower than a dedicated battery charger. Solar can also contribute to battery charging when plugged into shore power.

Using solar to save on shore power costs: Some RVers prioritize using solar power when possible to reduce electricity consumption from the campground, which can save money if you're billed for usage.

Automatic transfer switch: Many RVs have an automatic transfer switch (ATS) that handles switching between power sources (like shore power and inverter/solar) automatically.

In short, shore power and solar panels can work together to provide power to your RV, with shore power typically being the primary source for most needs, while solar can supplement and help keep your batteries topped off.
